Suicide bombers attack Maiduguri market, kill 59
Its so sad to think that one of the most secured places in the North is being gradually captured by this Bokoharamic elements..I remember my Dad telling me about his travels to the North, when i was younger, especially Maiduguri..it used to be a very safe place for people..But of late it has become a place of terror, where market men and women can no longer go about their daily business, for fear of being killed.
Yesterday alone, 59 market goers were killed when 2 suicide bombers hit the market. and leaving about 92 other seriously injured..
The death rate would have been lesser, if not for this very bad attitude of onlookers when things like this happens. when there is a blast, people should please run for their lives, (if they can).. Eye witnesses says that a large crowd gathered round the corpses of people who had died in the first explosion, and that was why the second bomber had enough target to detonate his own bomb
“Just as people gathered around her corpse and few other people that died in the first explosion, the male bomber detonated the explosive on him. No one can give you the exact casualty now but over 50 people were killed and many have been rushed to hospital.”
Please Nigerians, stay safe..if there was an explosion already, its most likely another will be happening close by..wisest thing to do, RUN!!!
Fayose restores Oni’s privileges as former governor
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has restored all the privileges of former Governor Segun Oni, whose election was annulled by an Appeal Court in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Oni’s successor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, stopped the privileges enjoyed by Oni on the grounds that a court had declared his election illegal.
A statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday by Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said the governor took the step in appreciation of the contributions of past leaders in the state.
“Governor Ayo Fayose is restoring all the privileges of former Governor Segun Oni. His portrait, which was removed from the Governor’s Office by former Governor Kayode Fayemi, has been returned.
“All those who served with him and whose portraits were removed by the past administration such as former chief press secretaries, among others, have been returned.
“It was the Fayemi’s administration that even stopped their financial entitlements when it made the House of Assembly to pass a bill that Oni and Fayose were not due for such.
“The excuse they gave was that Fayose did not complete his tenure and Oni’s tenure was unknown to law because the court removed him from office.
**i hope all parties are satisfied now**
IM A CANCER SURVIVOR-WOLE SOYINKA
Nigeria's literary giant, Prof. Wole Soyinka disclosed that he fought prostate cancer, and won. he discovered he had the disease late lst year, and he battled it for almost a year before he was finally cured of the ailment.
He said; “In December last year, I discovered that I had cancer, we were making sure that, that was what it was before going for other tests. And once it was established that I did have cancer and I was sure because in my family we had an uncle, at the time he died, we did not have all the sophisticated ways of knowing how he died.
“What killed him was attributed to a lot of things. From the little things I know about cancer, I came to a conclusion that he died of cancer, maybe we have it in our family.”
On why he is opening up about it now, he said;
“For me, it is not a decision that I am happy with, but I felt I have an obligation being a member of the Africa Cancer Centre and also having donated during the festival of fund raising for cancer, I felt I owe people an obligation to make it known and also to demystify cancer, many people feel it’s death sentence. Family, friends and colleagues begin to look at you as if you are a ghost, just because you have cancer.”
**You hear him people, having cancer is not a death sentence. the trick is getting hold of it on time, so it can be treated**
UNIJOS SHUT DOWN, AS SECURITY OPERATIVES SHOOTS 8 PROTESTING STUDENTS..
For the life of me, i would never understand the reason why a group of armed security guys/police will open fire on unarmed protesting students.. it is normal for higher institution students to show their displeasure in fee hike, or if they feel they are being extorted.
Its reported that the school had to call in security operatives, to restore order so that the protest wont turn bloody, and they ended up shooting 8 students..
A statement made yesterday Tuesday, by the University Registrar Jully Dandam, after a hurriedly convened management meeting, said the institution would remain shut “till further notice”.
The statement ordered all students to vacate campus before 2 p.m. on Tuesday as a way of halting the violence and stopping the crisis from spreading to other parts of the state.
** i hope no student died, because that would be very bad.**
DISPLACED PEOPLE FLOOD LAGOS, DUE TO BOKOHARAM'S KILLINGS.
Im sure Lagosian would have noticed the rise in the influx of Megidas/Abokis lately. this is because these people have been displaced ,and they are running for their lives. asides that they need ways of survival. this is the story of Vanguard Feature (reporter), who boarded an 'okada' but got frustrated after the aboki wasted his time, by just riding aimlessly. the Aboki opened up later that he just got to Lagos, and know practically nowhere..but he had to pretend to know, so he can have customers...
here is the story;
''Like any other commercial motorcycle operator, Awalu Bernard who hails from the Northern part of the country, claimed to have an in depth knowledge of Festac Town and its environs where he operates. It was with this confidence that he agreed to take Vanguard Features, VF to Jinifa Plaza located on 23 Road.
A ride that was not supposed to last 10 minutes, unfortunately took about 20 minutes. Shortly after take off, he opted to take a route that will lengthen the journey, despite being told that it was not the correct road.
Awalu’s insistence on taking the road resulted to an altercation between him and VF since it was obvious that he had little or no understanding of where he was going to.
‘’Why did you claim that you know the road, when it is obvious that you know nothing?’’ VF asked him in Hausa language.
‘’OgaI! Walahi I am a new comer. If I told you I did not know the place, you would not have patronised me. It is only through this method that we get to know the environment,’’ he stated.
Dislocated by insurgency
Asked how long he had been in the business, Awalu, who did not hide his excitement over VF’s ability to speak Hausa, said: “Oga! I have spent nine weeks so far. I started this job immediately I arrived Lagos. I knew how to ride motorcycle before coming to Lagos.’’
This surprising disclosure led to question on whether he had lived in Lagos before. His response was: ‘’This is my first visit to Lagos. I was a successful farmer before I found myself here. I am not the only one from my place, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State who came to Lagos at the same time. We were many. The killings in our communities by Boko Haram members made most of us to run for our lives.’’
Continuing, he said, ‘’Some of us are staying with our relations while others are staying with friends who helped them to secure commercial motorcycles. We are not happy that we are here but the situation turned us into what we have become. That is why there are so many commercial motorcycles in Festac. Some of us who could not afford the motorcycles, resorted to doing any menial job in sight’’.
Awalu was not done yet. “I used to sell rice, flour and other food stuff. I had a big shop. In fact, in a day I could sell 20 bags of rice but because of the destruction in Adamawa, I had to run for my life. I am not happy that I am riding a motorcycle which does not give me enough money as I used to have before. When I was at home, we could invest N50,000 or N100,000 into farming. But the insurgents have destroyed all our farmlands. We could not run to any Northern state because none of them is safe,” he explained.
Just like Awalu, there are so many displaced persons, trying hard to make a living in a strange and new environment..#Sad story...i just wish all these bokoharam can just vanish..its a bad nightmare...#sigh
*Got to go now, will add more later. stay tuned**
