Things You Need To Know This Thursday, In The News!
Good morning Fam! How are you all doing. its time for the daily dose of news in brief.
This news is starting on a positive note today!
I say positive, because i am tired of reporting all these boko boys's news, and anything not gruesome, and bloody will do for a change.
So let's get started....
FG says it will buy cooking stove and wonder bags worth N9.2Billion for women.
I wouldnt know how this would improve these women's lives, but the Federal Executive Council this last Wednesday approved the purchase of N9.2bn worth of cooking stoves and ‘wonder bags’ for rural women under the National Clean Cooking Scheme.
This wonder bag is a non-electric slow cooker invented by one Sarah Collins, a South African eco-entrepreneur, who came up with the idea of surrounding the pan with cushions six years ago during a power cut in her country....
My take is, if the FG is targeting rural women, who are already used to cooking with firewood, (which is a faster way of cooking by the way) how are they supposed to be integrated into the ways of using this items. and if the items are electric powered, what is the assurance that they will be used at all, with the way electricity is in Nigeria..
wont it just be a trophy in some houses..i mean some of these women will definitely collect them and keep.
Anyways, the FG said these wonder bags and stoves will be imported into Nigeria, and will be assembled by Nigerians, therefore it will provide jobs for some..
“The scheme is expected to provide 20 million clean stoves over a five-year period at the rate of four million stoves per annum, which will be distributed free of charge.
“It will also reduce incessant felling of trees, (use of fire wood for cooking)which exposes the country to ecological problems.
TUKUR'S RETURN AS PDP CHAIRMAN REJECTED..
Peoples Democratic Party and its National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, on Wednesday at a Federal High Court in Abuja opposed the move by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur to return as the leader of the party.
Tukur resigned as the National Chairman of the party on January 15, 2014, but he has asked the court to reinstate him to the position.
He urged the court to declare that he remained the party chairman arguing that his resignation letter did not meet the requirement of the PDP’s constitution, which made it mandatory for 30 days notice to be given before the resignation would become effective.
**But he resigned willingly..what does he want again#rollseyes***
DONT CALL TAMBUWAL SPEAKER-IG
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, was adamant on Wednesday, He refused to recognise the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, as the speaker.
The IG simply addressed him as “Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal”, a title that angered members of the House Committee on Police Affairs.
Abba insisted that it would be “subjudice” for him to address Tambuwal as speaker or any matter relating to him so long as such a matter was in court.
Chairman of the House committee, Mr. Usman Bello-Kurmo, asked him a direct question, “Is Aminu Waziri-Tambuwal the Speaker of the House of Representatives or not?”
The IG replied, “Mr. Chairman, you know that matters before the courts are subjudice.
“Commenting on them is subjudice until they are disposed of.”
**All these titles...either the speaker is added to his name or not, he remains the speaker until he is removed..and the fact that the IG refused to address him as speaker does not in any way stop him from being a speaker, so, i dont get the point for the fight here. and btw, he is an Alhaji, and the IG addressed him as that. and mr IG, next time, stop forgeting people's titles. LOL**
PDP WILL NEVER RULE LAGOS STATE!
Ghen-Ghen!!! The king has spoken!
The traditional ruler of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has said that PDP will not be ruling Lagos, any time soon(in the future too). He says that is the wishes of the people of Lagos state..
Oba Rilwan Akiolu spoke during the presentation of two books, “The story of my two worlds: Challenges, experiences,” and “A life of service and grace: Shared perspectives.”
He said;
“We are praying that the PDP will not rule Lagos State. The gods and ancestors in Lagos will not allow the PDP to rule Lagos,” the monarch stated jokingly amidst general laughter.
**Gbam! all those trying to take lagoS from the grip if APC has got a whole lot of 'Etutu'(sacrifices) to perform. Lol**
OBASANJO SAID NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IS THE ASSEMBLIES OF THIEVES!-OUCH
Obasanjo is all out to lambast anyone in the government who he feels isnt doing well enough! he has clashed with Jonathan himself lately, and the recent of these public trashing is what he did at the public presentation of the autobiography of Justice Mustapha Akanbi, in Abuja.
He called out the lawmakers, saying they are thieves(with the exception of very few)
Obasanjo said;
“Apart from shrouding the remunerations of the National Assembly in opaqueness and without transparency, they indulge in extorting money from departments, contractors and ministries in two ways,”
''the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has upped Nigeria’s corruption level through the huge sums of money it has been paying to the National Assembly to stop investigating its corrupt acts.
He said, “Corruption in the National Assembly also includes what they call constituency projects which they give to their agents to execute but invariably, full payment is made with little or no job done.
“In all this, if the executive is not absolutely above board, the offending members of the National Assembly resort to subtle or open threat, intimidation and blackmail. When the executive pay the huge money, normally in millions of dollars, all is quiet in form of whitewashed reports that fail to deal effectively with the issues investigated.”
***This is not news, Baba, we know. its been happening a long time ago!***
I beg him no chop clean mouth too
