Sunday News!

Good morning guys and Happy Sunday.

This is today's news.

bokoharam abducted almost 600 in 2014 alone.
Abducted Chibok girls

At least 592 were kidnapped by the Islamic fundamentalist group, Boko Haram in 2014.
They were mostly girls, boys and women.
Among them were the 276 schoolgirls abducted from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State by the sect on April 14.
The abduction, which was the first of nine reported kidnappings by Boko Haram this year, drew international outrage.
Majority of the kidnappings were recorded in Borno State, with the wife of Cameroonian Vice Prime Minister, Amadou Ali, abducted and at least three other people killed in an attack on Ali’s home in Kolofata northern Cameroon.
Boko Haram, on May 5, abducted 11 more girls in Warabe and Wala communities in the Chibok Local Government Area of Borno, killing about 300 people in Gamboru Ngala, a border town with Cameroon.
Asides the kidnappings the sect has killed over 10,000 people, and the Nigerian army is absolutely clueless on how to tackle the menace.

Why i'm against Obasanjo-Kashamu

Chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, Buruji Kashamu

Chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, Buruji Kashamu, has said he has been at war with former President Olusegun Obasanjo due to their clash of interests.
In an interview with our correspondent, the PDP financier said his camp has been disagreeing with Obasanjo because he allegedly imposes people on other people.
He said, “PDP has been liberated. When Baba Obasanjo was controlling the whole of South-West (PDP); that was what happened (marginalisation) and that is why we have been fighting since those days.
“Not that I hate Baba Obasanjo; it is not that I don’t have respect for elders; but we are tired of people who will be saying something today and be saying another thing tomorrow. We are tired of imposition. We are tired of selfish interests.
“The people who are supposed to join their hands together and fight for the future of our children; are not doing that. They are doing whatever negotiations they want to do for their selfish interests. That is what has dragged us behind the scene.”

Jonathan administration is not responsible-Osinbajo
Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has said poor management of resources rather than the lack of resources has been the bane of nation’s economy.
Proper management, according to Osinbajo, has been dodging the country for a while.
“The problem is management of resources. If we plug the loopholes, you’ll see the resources being pooled together.”
“Security is the first duty of any government; you cannot fight a war where leadership is uncertain; where leadership is not sure of itself and its responsibilities.
“The type of leadership we need to successfully fight a war is lacking. The commander-in-chief has responsibility for everything. You can’t continue to say your enemies did this or that. You’ve got to take responsibility and that is what is lacking in the current dispensation.
“The people I talked to in my bus trips, both men and women asked, ‘What are you doing about the Chibok girls?’ I was surprised that people here in Lagos could be that concerned. It shows everyone is concerned. My take is that as the president, you should visit these places, talk to them and let them see that you are doing something. And one of the things to be done is equipping the military.”

Clearing charges raises by 50% in Nigerian ports.
Articulated vehicles at the Tin Can Island Port end of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

Importers now have to pay 50 per cent more to clear their goods at the ports.
Investigations showed that goods are now being cleared by the agents at the rate of N750 per kilogramme, compared to the previous amount of N500. This represents a 50 per cent increase.
Importers who spoke in separate interviews with our correspondent described the increase as unjust.
They also explained that the increase was not duly communicated to them but was imposed on them without any justifiable reason.
This, they added, was causing untold hardship not only to importers, but also to end-users of the products.
The President, Association of Finished Textile Dealers of Lagos, Mr. Patrick Uzomah, said that the hike in the clearing rate should be reversed by government. He said, “Most importers are still trying to get funds to clear the backlog of goods that have been lying in the cargo section of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport after its recent long closure.
“We have been trying to raise funds to clear the demurrage, only for the clearing agents to also increase their fees. I think it is not good, and we have noticed that they do this every December. It isn’t right; government needs to step in to assist us.”

FG to stop Nigerian youths from travelling to volatile middle east countries.
Coordinator, National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri,

Following intelligence reports that the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is making frantic moves to recruit Nigerian youths, the Federal Government has taken a decision to restrict Nigerians from travelling to Iraq, Syria and other volatile countries in the Middle East.
Sunday Punch gathered that intelligence agencies such as the Defence Intelligence Agency and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency had issued an international warning, requesting that other countries should refuse visa to Nigerians going to war-ravaged countries in the Middle East.
This would make it almost possible for Nigerians to get a visa from the country to any of the countries listed under the restriction alert in the Middle East.
Similarly, the screening of inbound international passengers at major airports in the country had been intensified in the past one week. Airports where such screenings are being carried out include those in Kano, Lagos and Abuja.
It was learnt that apart from the bomb detectors used for all passengers, movements of some citizens of some Middle East countries were monitored right from their arrival in the country.
