Friday news.

Good morning dear KB readers. I want to say a big THANK YOU to all who wished me well on my birthday-yesterday.
You all made my day complete, and i am very grateful.
May you all be celebrated. Amen. I would also love to host business advert banners of my blog readers for free for the nest 1 month. So if you have any business that you do, and want to advertise, just send in the details(text, advert images/banners, and contact information ) to my email at oviekem@gmail.com.

Now, let's get started on today's news.....but before then, has anyone seen the video of the reporter thaty interviewed some of the protesters at the Chatham house  London yesterday? the protesters were there to express their grouse against GMB..
But the most disheartening thing is that they do not even have one single cogent reason for doing what they went to do at the Chatham house. they were obviously paid to do it. Now this brings me to this question that has been ringing in my ears since i saw the video....
Is this the best thing that the Nigerian youth can do? support what is obviously bad, for a few bucks? people said the protesters were paid $20, some said it was 50 euros....and for what? to further sink the name of Nigeria that has long ago been buried in mire?
To say i was disappointed is the least of the emotions i felt..it is so sad and pathetic.
Nigerian youths, please stand up , and think! i hope and pray things change for better.
God bless Nigeria. Amen.

Ehen, to the news.. :-D

Jonathan's visit to Lagos is a waste-Fashola, Ambode.
Governor Babatunde Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday, took a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan for his repeated visits to Lagos ahead of the March 28 presidential election.
They said the President was only being deceived by the state leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party as Lagosians would not vote for him.
While speaking at a rally in the Ifako/Ijaye Local Government Area of the state, Fashola said although Jonathan had a right to visit the state, his recent visits were hypocritical because when Lagos was facing its biggest challenge during the Ebola outbreak, the President never visited the state.

He, therefore, urged the people of the state not to be deceived by the visits.
Fashola accused the President of distributing dollars during his five-day visit to the state last week, adding that Jonathan’s planned visit to Lagos on Sunday would amount to nothing.
He said, “They have said the President is coming to Lagos. He is welcome to come; Lagos is part of his constituency but we will not vote for him because when we needed him, he did not come to help us. When the international airport road was damaged and he promised to fix it, did you see him?
“When Ebola hit Lagos, did he come? When Kuramo Beach was overflowing and it was going to wipe out the entire Goshen Beach Estate, did you see the President? When I took him to Ibeju-Lekki, where people were losing their lands, we flew in a helicopter to the place but after that, the President never returned. I wrote letters and appealed but no response.
“We have been using your taxes to protect those communities. So, you have been on your own, with your own party and government. So, he can come 200 times but will you vote for him? The only time the President works is a few weeks to elections. When there was security problem in Lagos, who was buying guns and patrol vehicles for the police? Was it not us?” He said..

PDP/Presidency is planning on removing Jega-APC senators
INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega

Members of the All Progressives Congress in the Senate on Thursday   alleged that there was a fresh plot by the Federal Government to   prevent the   Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman,   Attahiru Jega, from superintending over the forthcoming general elections.
The APC senators, led by George Akume, told   a news conference in Abuja that they heard from a reliable source that the Head of Service would direct Jega to proceed on his pre-retirement leave next week.
“We have received information from a very credible source that next week, the Chairman of INEC will be given a letter from the office of the Head of the Civil Service   to proceed on a terminal leave,” they said.
The opposition senators alleged that the Federal Government was trying to use a circular from the HoS   dated August 11, 2010 to place Jega on compulsory pre-retirement leave.
They said, “Whether the letter emanates from the HoS office or the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, it does not make sense. Even if we go by the terms of the Civil Service circular of August 11, 2010, (it) is not applicable whatsoever to the INEC chairman.”

I won’t grant amnesty to Boko Haram –Buhari
Maj-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (retd.)

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), on Thursday, ruled out amnesty for   Boko Haram insurgents if elected President on March 28.
He said the activities of the sect which has so far killed over 13, 000 people since 2009,   had become a source of worry to many people within and outside the country.
Buhari was at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, London, where he addressed the world on various issues concerning the rescheduled general elections.
He said,   “I think I will not go to that office with that promise. I have said in my address how, at least 13,000 Nigerians have been killed by Boko Haram, how millions of them have been displaced and are now kept in different camps called Internally Displaced Persons camps.
“Schools have been burnt, there is so much disruption to normal life; people cannot farm and where they are able to farm, they cannot harvest. So, granting amnesty to Boko Haram will be unfair to the system.”
Buhari, who described himself as “a former military ruler and a converted democrat,” however stated that any insurgent caught would “be given the chance in civil courts to be properly prosecuted.”

Afenifere working for Yoruba interest, says Arogbofa

Secretary of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Basorun Seinde Arogbofa

Secretary of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Bashorun Arogbofa, has said that the group’s endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan was not informed by any desire for patronage but in the interest of the people of the South-West.
Speaking to our correspondent, on Thursday, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the octogenarian noted that the people should trust Afenifere’s judgment in this critical time of Nigeria’s political history.
He said leaders of Afenifere were above board and would not be compromised to take any position as important as who becomes the next leader of the country.
According to him, Afenifere is peopled by disciplined and forthright leaders who are not seeking favors from any quarters.
He said, “We, the authentic Afenifere, are not hungry. We are not seeking any patronage. If there is going to be any patronage, the people, whose interest we protect, should be patronised.”
Asked how the group intends to translate the support for the President to votes at the polls, Arogbofa said Afenifere was upholding its integrity, hoping that the people of the South-West would take a cue from their leaders and support Jonathan.

FG automates revenue collection at airports
Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos

In a bid to boost revenue generation in the aviation sector, the Federal Government on Thursday declared that it would implement the Aviation Revenue Automation Project to the letter.
It said the project, which is aimed at automating all aviation activities across airports in the country, would not only boost its revenue, but would enhance the productivity of airport personnel and improve passenger service.
The Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, said there was no going back on the project, adding that any chief executive or director-general of agencies under the ministry who failed to implement the project “within 60 days will be seriously sanctioned.”

Jonathan visits Baga and Mubi

President Goodluck Jonathan with some soldiers in Baga

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday made a surprise visit to some territories recently recovered from members of the Boko Haram sect by the Nigerian troops in Adamawa and Borno states.
The Presidency in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, described the visit, that took Jonathan to Mubi in Adamawa State and Baga in Borno State among others, as an on-the-spot assessment of efforts of the military and morale booster for the troops.
According to Abati, in the two towns recently recovered, Jonathan, who was dressed in full military camouflage, applauded the Nigerian troops for proving their mettle once again through the rapid recapture of the territories formerly held by insurgents in the country’s north-eastern states.
The presidential spokesman quoted Jonathan as telling the officers and men of the Nigerian Army in both towns that he and all Nigerians were very proud of the bravery, competence and patriotism with which they were now undertaking operations to expel the insurgents from all parts of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

Fashola condemns plan to increase import duties
Governor Babatunde Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has condemned the plan by the Federal Government to increase duties on imported vehicles by 35 per cent, saying there is no justification for such increment.
Fashola said the increase would stifle transport operations in the country.
He spoke on Thursday during a meeting with taxi and cab operators in the state at Agidingbin, Ikeja.
At the meeting, which was attended by taxi operators across the state, Fashola lamented that the decision of the Federal Government to impose 35 per cent tariff on imported vehicles was unacceptable because of its negative impact on transport operators.
The governor said the decision of the Federal Government, under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, would hinder transport operators from acquiring new vehicles, which he said, could improve their services to residents.
